This streamlining allows for a simpler storyline focusing on Angelica (Penelope Cruz), Blackbeard (Ian McShane), the crew of Queen Anne’s Revenge, and the quest for Ponce de Leone’s Fountain of Youth.Ĭaptain Jack Sparrow escapes the gallows. Only the characters Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Gibbs (Kevin McNally), Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), and Teague (Keith Richards) appeared in any of the first three movies. Gone are many of the familiar characters. Its ending leaves the opening for a big franchise with more to follow. The success of On Stranger Tides could generate another trilogy of further adventures for Captain Jack. Being a big Johnny Depp as well as Pirates fan, I was curious how this feature would tie in to the earlier trilogy. Hubby and I decided on a quiet, relaxing evening at home so after dinner, he popped Pirates of the Caribbean IV, On Stranger Tides into the Blu-Ray player.
